The Women and Babies Program covers the broad spectrum of care related to pregnancy,
labour and delivery, care of premature babies and women's reproductive health. Sunnybrook
is home to the second largest high-risk birthing centre in Ontario and provides
care for 1 in 5 of all infants in the province weighing less than three pounds.
Sunnybrook Foundation is raising $40 million to help build a two-storey, state-of-the-art
home for women and babies on Sunnybrook's Bayview Campus. The new home will accommodate
4,500 births annually and feature a leading edge Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Our
financial support will help ensure healthy lives by giving full-term, premature
and acutely ill babies in Toronto the very best start in life.
St. Alban's Boys' and Girls' Club is dedicated to providing a safe, supportive place
where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build
positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life. The Junior League
of Toronto is committed to providing financial and volunteer support to Sistahood
(ages 11-14) and Girls on the Move (ages 15-18). These programs were created by
St. Alban's to empower girls with the necessary tools to succeed in this challenging
world and to become healthy, educated, contributing young women. Our financial support
will introduce these programs to the Jane & Finch and Weston-Mount Dennis locations
that have been designated by the city of Toronto and the United Way as priority
neighborhoods experiencing growing levels of poverty.
JLT Kickstart for health is a model developed by the Junior League of Toronto that empowers teenage girls and their families to embrace healthy lifestyle choices by building confidence, developing new skills and inspiring positive life choices. Our financial support will enable the delivery of the following programs: Healthy Living Workshops, Girls Just Want To Run...a 10K, and an inspirational Speakers Series.
JLT Tiaras and Ties: In the spirit of empowering youth in York Region, this program celebrates the achievements of high school students who have overcome adversity and reached the milestone of graduation. Our financial support will provide graduating high school students in financial need with formal attire so they can attend their school prom with pride.
JLT Tea for Teens
is a program developed by the Junior League of Toronto that provides Christmas time
gifts to over 400 youth and teens living in foster homes, community group homes,
with their families in a shelter, or participating in a shelter's outreach program.
The program operates in conjunction with Oakville Community Youth, Interim House
in Mississauga, as well as Women's Habitat, Youth Without Shelter, and Pelletier
Homes for Youth, all within the GTA. In Spring 2007, the JLT Tea for Teens was the
recipient of the Canadian Federation of Junior Leagues/Talbots Canada Community Impact Award, recognizing the development
and implementation of this strong, responsive community project.
